New Jersey's 19 community colleges offer the 12 th Grade Initiative, an optional program for high school seniors who have passed the High School Proficiency Assessment and completed all high school requirements with the exception of English and physical education. The 12 th Grade Initiative allows seniors to take college-level courses while still in high school. To enroll in college classes, students have to take the college placement/basic skills test and have to meet the courses' prerequisites. The 12th Grade Initiative is offered:
