NJ STARS Students Can Earn a Significant Scholarship
Towards Their Bachelor's Degrees with NJ STARS II

New Jersey community college NJ STARS students who earn their associate's degrees with a 3.25 grade point average or better are eligible for NJ STARS II at any New Jersey public four-year college or university.

NJ STARS II provides a $6,000 per year scholarship for students earning their associate degree with a 3.25 to 3.49 grade point average.

NJ STARS II provides a $7,000 per year scholarship for students earning their associate degree with a 3.5 or better grade point average.

The scholarships will cover tuition only, except in the case of New Jersey Tuition Aid Grant recipients who can apply the scholarship to fees as well. Non-need based aid students will cover the fees and any remaining tuition amounts.

Public four-year colleges and universities participating in NJ STARS II include:

NJ STARS II students have four semesters to complete their baccalaureate degrees.

NJ STARS II students must maintain a 3.25 grade point average in their junior year to receive the scholarship in their senior year. The senior year award will be adjusted up or down based on the student's grade point average.

Students whose family income exceeds $250,000 will not be eligible for NJ STARS II.

NJ STARS freshmen at the community college will have to meet the new criteria for NJ STARS II. Current NJ STARS sophomores are required to attain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average or better upon graduation from a community college in Spring 2009 to qualify for NJ STARS II in Fall 2009. Current NJ STARS II juniors will receive their current benefit for their senior year.

Under NJ STARS II, community college credits are fully transferable, allowing students to begin at the four-year institution as juniors.
